hosting nuns
2007 Saranaloka Foundation. Headquarters in San Mateo, California.
For Retreat Centers and Sitting Groups:

If you would like to invite one or more nuns to teach at your
center, lead a retreat or spend an evening with your group,
please drop us an email and we will help you get in touch
directly with them or will include your request as part of a
larger invitation. Your request can be for specific dates in the
case of a retreat or just a general invitation such as "when
they come to California again, we'd like to have them come
and teach at our Thursday night sitting."

Centers and groups are expected to offer appropriate
accommodations, transportation and meals for the nuns.
Their
vinaya (rules) requires that they be accompanied by
another woman in the presence of men; that they eat their
meal before noon (1pm daylight savings time); and that they
do not carry or use money.

Being the support person for a visiting nun can be a
rewarding and joyful experience; they are gracious and are
comfortable answering questions of protocol. More details
are available on request. We are happy to support you and
will help you to make this a comfortable and special occasion.

Please see our
Lay Guide for answers to many questions that
arise when hosting a nun.
